spontaneity. without it, i cannot survive. for what is college without it? these are the best college nights. "being grown up isn't half as fun as growing up, these are the best days of our lives."
I missed all of the shooting stars. everyone was ooh-ing and ah-ing left and right--everyone but me. they would magically appear while I was in the midst of changing the song on my ipod or just closing my eyes. countless times the four others I was with would scream and say, "THERE'S ANOTHER ONE! DID YOU SEE IT?!" and every time I was the only one who replied, "Dangit, I missed it AGAIN." I was so determined at first to see one but with each failed attempt I became more and more discouraged. Just as I was about to give up hope, I saw it. A small streak of light, blazing across the purple sky. It was so quick, I thought I had imagined it at first. It was even better than I had imagined. I watched it silently, stunned by the beauty of its presence. I then turned excitedly and asked if anyone else had seen it. Nobody else had. I felt a little sad, wishing I could share the shooting star with another. I kept a hawk-like watch for others that happened to rain upon the sky and then FINALLY all five of us saw the same shooting star. The moment was somehow so magical to me. It started to get colder and our hands shook as we packed up all of our belongings and headed down towards the parking lot. I took one more look back at the night sky and thought about the shooting star I had seen alone. It wasn't the brightest or fastest. It wasn't even the largest. But it was still special nonetheless. A beautiful ray of hope that something bigger than us was out in the universe. It was the first time I had ever been graced with the presence of a natural wonder. I smiled and thought that maybe, just maybe, it was okay that I alone saw that shooting star. maybe I could keep one to myself.
what started out as an ordinary studying session turned to this.
i live for nights like these.....and suffer the consequences in the morning. I don't really care, though. It's worth it.
